Rwanda Experiences Brief Internet Connectivity Disruption
Rwanda experienced a brief but significant internet connectivity disruption on Thursday, June 5, 2026. The event began around 18:00 UTC and lasted approximately 70 minutes, with a primary impact on network reachability.
Technical Details
The disruption was characterized by a sharp decline in the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across the country’s core IPv4 address blocks. The signal recorded a severity score of 1,619, indicating a notable drop in successful connections. The median reachability for active /24 network prefixes fell by 26% from its peak during the event.
Other network signals showed varied behavior. The gtr.sarima signal, which forecasts deviations from expected traffic volume, recorded a 33% drop from its peak. Backscatter measurements, a proxy for aggregate connectivity, also showed a complete drop to zero during the period. The BGP control plane, responsible for routing announcements, remained stable with no significant prefix withdrawal activity observed.
The cause has not been publicly attributed.
Network connectivity was reported restored by 19:10 UTC.
