Malta experienced a disruption in its Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane on July 27, 2026. The event lasted approximately 1.8 hours, beginning around 20:10 UTC and concluding by 22:00 UTC. The primary technical indicator affected was the BGP signal, which registered a severity score of 294.

Technical Details

The BGP.median signal, which measures the visibility of network routing prefixes on the global control plane, showed a 3% drop from its peak value during the observation period. Concurrently, the Merit Network Telescope (merit-nt) backscatter measurement, an aggregate proxy for internet connectivity, recorded a more significant 48% drop from its peak. The gtr-norm signal, representing deviations from an expected traffic baseline, fell by 80% from its peak. Other data plane signals, including active probing for ICMP reachability across IPv4 prefixes (ping-slash24), showed minor fluctuations of less than 10%.
