Cote D Ivoire experienced a significant internet connectivity disruption beginning early on August 4, 2026, which lasted for more than 23 hours. The event, which started around 01:10 UTC, was characterized by a severe degradation in network reachability and control plane visibility. The disruption remained ongoing at the last observation at 00:30 UTC on August 5.
Technical Details
The disruption registered a high overall severity score of 1,306,391,570. Two key network measurement signals were affected. The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 network prefixes, recorded a severity score of 58,873. Concurrently, the BGP signal, which monitors the control plane visibility of network prefixes, recorded a severity score of 22,190. Both signals showed degradation for the duration of the event from 01:10 UTC on August 4 to 00:30 UTC on August 5.
Other measurement data showed a 31% drop from peak in normalized traffic levels and a 48% drop in backscatter measurements, a proxy for overall network activity. The cause has not been publicly attributed.
The disruption was ongoing at the time of the last observation.
