Laos experienced a disruption to its internet connectivity on Thursday, August 13, 2026, centered on the network control plane. The event lasted approximately one hour and fifty minutes, beginning at 10:40 UTC and concluding by 12:30 UTC.

Technical Details

The disruption registered a severity score of 119, with the primary impact observed on the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) signal. BGP is the mechanism that exchanges routing information between networks, and a degradation can affect the visibility of a country’s internet prefixes globally. The BGP signal recorded a median value drop of 1% from its peak during the observation window.

Concurrently, other network health indicators showed minor deviations. The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 network blocks, showed a 7% drop in activity. The Merit Network Telescope (merit-nt) signal, a proxy for overall connectivity, recorded a more significant 61% decline in observed traffic backscatter. The cause has not been publicly attributed.
