alert2blue

Iraq experienced a significant degradation in internet connectivity early Friday, lasting approximately 90 minutes. The disruption began at 03:00 UTC on June 6 and concluded by 04:30 UTC. The event registered a severity score of 6,052, primarily driven by a sharp drop in IP reachability.

Technical Details

The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 prefixes, recorded a 69% drop from its peak, falling to a low of 274 active prefixes. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane signal, indicating the visibility of network prefixes, saw an 18% reduction. The gtr.sarima signal, which forecasts deviations from expected traffic baselines, showed a 55% drop from its peak. The ucsd-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter measurements, recorded a 73% decline.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation period.
