Jamaica experiences connectivity disruption, ICMP reachability drops

Jamaica experienced a degradation in internet connectivity early Friday, June 6, 2026, lasting approximately two and a half hours. The disruption was characterized by a significant drop in ICMP reachability across the country’s IPv4 address space.

Technical Details

The connectivity event began at 02:00 UTC and concluded at 04:30 UTC. The primary affected metric was the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 prefixes. This signal recorded a severity score of 3,592, with its median value dropping by 44% from its observed peak during the event window.

Other network signals showed varied behavior. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, which advertises network prefixes, remained stable with no observed drop. The gtr.sarima signal, which forecasts deviations from expected traffic baselines, recorded a 68% drop from its peak. The ucsd-nt signal, a backscatter measurement that serves as a proxy for aggregate connectivity, showed a complete 100% drop from its peak.

Reported Cause

The cause of the disruption has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by 04:30 UTC.
