Iraq Experiences Brief Connectivity Disruption

alert2blue

Iraq experienced a brief but significant internet connectivity disruption in the early hours of June 14, 2026. The event lasted approximately 90 minutes, beginning at 03:00 UTC and ending by 04:30 UTC. The disruption was most pronounced in IPv4 reachability metrics.

Technical Details

The primary affected signal was the ping-slash24 metric, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 network prefixes. This signal recorded a severity score of 6,052 and showed a 70% drop from its peak value during the observation window. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, which manages the routing of internet traffic, saw a more modest 18% drop in visible prefixes. The gtr.sarima signal, which forecasts deviations from expected traffic baselines, indicated a 62% drop from its peak. A separate backscatter measurement, used as a proxy for aggregate connectivity, recorded a 50% decline.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation period.
