Belize Experiences Week-Long Internet Connectivity Disruption
Belize experienced a significant internet connectivity disruption lasting nearly six days, beginning on June 18 and ending on June 24. The event was characterized by a severe degradation in network reachability, with a primary severity score of 238,145 recorded for the affected period.
Technical Details
The disruption was most pronounced in the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 network prefixes. This signal recorded a severity score of 238,145, with a drop in median values of approximately 19% from its peak. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) signal, which reflects control plane visibility for network prefixes, saw a minor 3% decline. The gtr-norm signal, which tracks deviation from expected traffic baselines, showed a more substantial 71% drop from its peak. Backscatter measurements from the ucsd-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity, also fell by 50%.
The cause has not been publicly attributed.
Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation window.
