Belize experienced a significant, week-long degradation in internet connectivity beginning on June 18. The disruption, which lasted approximately 7.8 days, primarily impacted the reachability of the country’s core internet infrastructure. The event was characterized by a severe drop in active network measurements.

Technical Details

The disruption recorded a severity score of 320,869 based on a key signal measuring ICMP reachability across the nation’s IPv4 /24 network prefixes. This signal showed a measurable decline in reachability starting at 06:20 UTC on June 18 and persisting until 00:30 UTC on June 26.

Other measurement signals corroborated the event. The gtr-norm signal, which tracks deviation from expected traffic baselines, showed a 26% drop from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity, recorded a more pronounced 73% decline from its peak value. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, which manages routing information between networks, remained stable and showed no significant change throughout the event.
