Cameroon experienced a disruption in its Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane visibility beginning on July 29, 2026. The event, which lasted approximately one day, was characterized by a significant degradation in the BGP signal, a key metric for internet routing stability. The disruption was observed in two distinct periods, with the most severe impact recorded in the initial phase.

Technical Details

The primary affected signal was BGP, which measures the control plane visibility and stability of advertised internet routing prefixes. The event registered an overall severity score of 2,053. The first and most severe disruption period began at 00:10 UTC on July 29 and lasted nearly 23 hours, recording a severity score of 1,986. A second, less severe period of disruption occurred from 23:40 UTC on July 29 to 00:30 UTC on July 30.

Other network signals showed varying levels of impact. The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 network blocks, showed an 8% drop from its peak. Backscatter measurements, a proxy for aggregate network connectivity, recorded a more substantial 70% drop from peak levels. The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation window.
