Cameroon experienced a significant connectivity disruption lasting approximately three days, beginning on July 29 and persisting through the early hours of August 2. The event was characterized by a severe degradation in the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, a key signal for network routing visibility. The cause has not been publicly attributed.

The disruption began at 23:40 UTC on July 29 and ended at 00:30 UTC on August 2. The BGP signal recorded a severity score of 5,882 during this period. BGP provides visibility into the routing of internet prefixes between networks. Other signals showed varied impacts: active probing for ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 prefixes showed a 10% drop from its peak, while backscatter measurements, a proxy for aggregate connectivity, recorded a 94% drop. Traffic volume also deviated from its expected baseline, falling 54% below its peak.

The disruption remained ongoing at last observation before restoration.
