The Federated States of Micronesia experienced a disruption to its internet routing control plane on August 1-2, 2026. The event lasted approximately eight hours, beginning around 16:15 UTC on August 1 and concluding by 00:30 UTC on August 2. The primary impact was observed on the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) signal, which registered a severity score of 5,720.

Technical Details

The disruption was characterized by a sustained anomaly in the BGP signal. BGP provides the control plane visibility for internet prefixes, governing how traffic is routed between networks. During the event, the median BGP visibility for Micronesian prefixes remained at a constant level of 69 measurement points, showing no percentage drop from its peak but indicating a persistent deviation from normal routing behavior.

Concurrently, a more modest degradation was recorded in the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across active IPv4 /24 network prefixes. This signal showed an 11% drop from its peak, with an average of 27.31 measurement points during the observation window. The cause has not been publicly attributed.

The disruption was reported resolved by the end of the observation period.
