Azerbaijan experienced a short-duration disruption to its internet control plane on August 5, 2026. The event, which lasted approximately 15 minutes, was characterized by a degradation in the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) signal. The disruption began at 23:25 UTC and concluded by 23:40 UTC.

Technical Details

The event registered a severity score of 16. The primary affected signal was BGP, which measures the stability and visibility of routing announcements for the country’s internet prefixes. A concurrent, though less severe, drop was observed in the Merit Network Telescope (merit-nt) signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter traffic, which fell 46% from its peak. The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 network blocks, showed a 7% drop in reachable prefixes. The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored following the brief event.
