Côte d’Ivoire experienced a significant, multi-day disruption to its internet connectivity beginning on August 4. The event, which lasted approximately three days, was characterized by a severe degradation in network reachability and control plane visibility. Connectivity was observed to be largely restored by the early hours of August 7 UTC.
Technical Details
The disruption recorded a severity score of 122,008,991. It primarily impacted two key network signals. The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 network prefixes, recorded a severity score of 179,917. The bgp signal, which reflects the visibility of network routing information in the global control plane, recorded a severity score of 67,814.
Both signals showed degraded performance from 01:10 UTC on August 4 until 00:30 UTC on August 7. The gtr-norm signal, a normalized measure of traffic flow, showed a 37% drop from its peak during the observation period. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter measurements, showed a 31% drop from its peak.
The cause has not been publicly attributed.
The disruption remained ongoing at last observation before restoration.
