South Sudan experienced a brief but significant disruption to its internet routing infrastructure on Tuesday. The event, which lasted just under an hour, was characterized by a sharp drop in Border Gateway Protocol visibility, a key signal for network reachability.

Technical Details

The disruption began at 15:35 UTC on August 11 and concluded by 16:30 UTC. The BGP signal, which measures the control plane visibility of network prefixes, recorded a severity score of 98 during the event. This signal dropped by approximately 2% from its peak. Concurrent measurements of active IPv4 reachability and network backscatter traffic showed minor fluctuations but no major degradation.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Network routing appeared to have stabilized by the end of the observation window.
