Afghanistan registered a brief but notable disruption in its Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routing on Wednesday morning. The event, which lasted approximately 15 minutes, was observed between 07:00 and 07:15 UTC.

Technical Details

The disruption recorded a severity score of 32, with the BGP signal being the primary indicator affected. The BGP signal measures the control plane visibility and stability of internet routing prefixes. Concurrently, a 10% drop was observed in the ping-slash24 signal, which tracks ICMP reachability across IPv4 network blocks. The gtr-norm signal, a proxy for aggregate traffic volume, showed a 51% drop from its peak during the observation period.

The cause has not been publicly attributed. No related public statements or reports from service providers or government entities were identified in the immediate aftermath.

Network conditions were reported as having returned to baseline levels following the brief event.
