Bhutan’s internet connectivity experienced a brief disruption affecting its control plane on Thursday, August 13. The event, which lasted approximately 45 minutes, centered on a degradation in the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) signal. The disruption began at 19:45 UTC and concluded by 20:30 UTC.

Technical Details

The disruption registered a severity score of 87. The primary affected signal was BGP, which measures the visibility of network routing prefixes in the global control plane. During the event, the BGP signal recorded a drop of 2% from its peak value. Other network telemetry signals, including active probing for IPv4 reachability and traffic volume forecasts, showed minimal to no deviation from their normal baselines.

The cause has not been publicly attributed. Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation period.
