Laos experienced a prolonged disruption to its Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, beginning on September 2 and continuing through September 4. The event, which lasted approximately 1.7 days, recorded a severity score of 2,651. The primary impact was observed on the BGP signal, which measures the visibility of network prefixes to the global routing system.

Technical Details

The disruption was observed between 07:45 UTC on September 2 and 00:30 UTC on September 4. The BGP signal, which reflects the stability of routing announcements, showed a significant deviation. The Merit Network Telescope (merit-nt) backscatter signal, a proxy for overall connectivity, recorded an 84% drop from its peak value. The normalized global traffic (gtr-norm) signal also showed a 16% reduction from its expected baseline.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

The disruption remained ongoing at the final observation point.
