Congo experienced a brief but significant degradation in internet connectivity on Thursday. The disruption began at 13:23 UTC and lasted approximately 52 minutes, ending at 14:15 UTC. The event was characterized by a sharp drop in a key network backscatter measurement.

Technical Details

The disruption recorded a severity score of 5,038. The primary affected signal was Merit-NT, a measurement of backscatter traffic that serves as a proxy for aggregate internet connectivity. The Merit-NT signal dropped by 97% from its peak during the event. Other network health indicators, including Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane visibility and active ICMP reachability probing, showed minimal deviation from normal levels.

The cause has not been publicly attributed. Connectivity was reported restored following the event.
