Guyana Experiences Brief Internet Connectivity Degradation

alert2blue

Guyana experienced a brief but significant internet connectivity degradation on Sunday, May 25, 2026. The disruption began at 19:00 UTC and lasted approximately 80 minutes, ending at 20:20 UTC. The event registered a severity score of 1,946, primarily driven by a sharp drop in network reachability.

Technical Details

The primary affected signal was ping-slash24, a measurement of ICMP reachability across IPv4 network prefixes. Its median value dropped by 36% from its peak during the event. The gtr-norm signal, which measures deviation from an expected traffic baseline, also fell by 36%. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter analysis, dropped to zero, indicating a complete loss of measurable background traffic. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane signal remained stable, showing no significant withdrawal of advertised network prefixes.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation window.
