Burkina Faso connectivity disruption lasted over seven days
Burkina Faso experienced a significant, week-long connectivity disruption beginning on May 18. The degradation, which lasted over seven days, was characterized by a severe drop in network reachability. The event concluded in the early hours of May 26.
Technical Details
The disruption registered a severity score of 271,258. The primary affected metric was the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 network prefixes. This signal showed a 7% drop from its peak performance.
Other network signals also showed deviations during the period. The gtr.sarima signal, which tracks forecast deviations from an expected traffic baseline, recorded a 30% drop from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter measurements, fell by 82% from its peak. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane signal, which reflects routing visibility for network prefixes, remained stable throughout the event.
The cause has not been publicly attributed.
Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation window.
