Angola experienced a significant internet connectivity disruption on August 14 and 15, lasting for approximately ten and a half hours. The disruption was first observed around 14:00 UTC on August 14 and persisted until 00:30 UTC on August 15. The event registered a severity score of 57,141, with the primary impact seen in aggregate traffic measurements.

Technical Details

The disruption was characterized by a sharp drop in the merit-nt signal, which serves as a proxy for overall internet connectivity by measuring backscatter traffic. This signal fell by 46% from its peak during the event. Concurrently, the gtr-norm signal, which tracks deviations from expected traffic baselines, also showed a significant 37% decline. In contrast, control-plane visibility via the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and active reachability probing across IPv4 networks remained largely stable, showing minimal degradation.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation period.
