Cameroon experienced a significant disruption to its internet routing control plane beginning on July 29, 2026. The event, which lasted approximately one day, was characterized by a severe degradation in the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) signal, a key metric for network visibility.

Technical Details

The disruption was observed between 23:40 UTC on July 29 and 00:30 UTC on July 31. The BGP signal recorded a severity score of 2,006. BGP is the protocol that manages how data packets are routed across the internet, and its degradation can indicate a loss of routing information between networks.

Other network signals showed less pronounced impacts. The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 network blocks, showed an 8% drop from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity, recorded a 59% drop from its peak. The gtr-norm signal, which tracks deviations from expected traffic baselines, fell 76% from its peak.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

The disruption had concluded by the end of the observation period.
