Cameroon experienced a significant connectivity disruption beginning late July 29, with effects continuing into August 1. The event, centered on the network control plane, lasted for approximately two days. The disruption was first observed at 23:40 UTC on July 29 and concluded at 00:30 UTC on August 1.

Technical Details

The event recorded a severity score of 3,944. The primary affected signal was the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) median, which measures control plane visibility for network prefixes. The BGP signal showed a deviation from its typical baseline over the event period.

Other network measurements showed concurrent anomalies. The gtr-norm signal, which tracks deviations from an expected traffic baseline, recorded a drop of 76% from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter measurements, showed an 84% drop from its peak. The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 prefixes, showed a more modest 7% decline.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation window.
