Equatorial Guinea experienced a significant internet connectivity disruption that lasted for more than 11 days. The event, which began on July 14 and concluded on July 26, was characterized by a severe degradation in the network’s control plane visibility. Technical Details
The primary affected signal was the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) median, which measures the control plane visibility for network prefixes. The BGP signal recorded a consistent, flat value of 117 throughout the 73 measurement points taken during the observation period, indicating a sustained, severe impairment in routing information exchange.
Other signals showed less dramatic but notable deviations. The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 prefixes, saw a 5% drop from its peak, averaging 40.81 reachable prefixes. The gtr-norm signal, a normalized measure of traffic volume, recorded a 13% drop from its peak, with an average value of 0.87. The gtr signal, representing raw traffic volume, showed a 17% decline from its observed peak.
The cause has not been publicly attributed.
Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation window.
