Zimbabwe experiences connectivity disruption lasting nearly two hours
Zimbabwe experienced a significant internet connectivity disruption on Thursday, lasting for nearly two hours. The event began at 13:00 UTC and concluded by 14:50 UTC, with the most severe impact observed on network reachability.
Technical Details
The disruption recorded a severity score of 4,669. The primary affected metric was the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 network prefixes. This signal showed a 60% drop from its peak value during the event.
Other network signals also registered deviations. The gtr-norm signal, which tracks traffic volume against a forecast baseline, fell by 75% from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity, dropped by 100%. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, responsible for routing visibility, showed a minimal 1% decline. The cause has not been publicly attributed.
Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation period.
