Belize Connectivity Disruption Lasted Over Eight Days

alert2blue

Belize experienced a significant internet connectivity disruption that began on June 18 and lasted for more than eight days. The event, which concluded around 00:30 UTC on June 27, was characterized by a severe degradation in network reachability. The primary technical impact was observed in the active probing of the country’s IPv4 address space.

Technical Details

The disruption recorded a severity score of 362,230, based on measurements of the ping-slash24 signal, which tracks ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 network prefixes. This signal showed a measurable drop in reachability during the event. Other network health indicators, including traffic volume forecasts and backscatter measurements, also registered deviations from normal baselines, corroborating the scale of the event. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, however, remained stable, showing no loss of advertised prefixes.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation period.
