Kiribati Experiences Brief BGP Control Plane Disruption
Kiribati experienced a brief disruption to its internet routing infrastructure on Thursday, July 10, 2026. The event, centered on the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, lasted approximately 15 minutes. The cause has not been publicly attributed.
Technical Details
The disruption was recorded between 09:55 and 10:10 UTC. The event registered a severity score of 28, based on a degradation in the BGP signal. The BGP signal measures the stability and visibility of routing announcements for the country’s IP address prefixes on the global internet. A concurrent, smaller drop was observed in the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across active IPv4 network blocks.
The cause has not been publicly attributed. Connectivity was reported restored following the brief event.
