Mali experienced a significant disruption to its internet routing control plane visibility beginning on July 30, with the event lasting over six days. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) signal, a key indicator of network prefix visibility, recorded a severity score of 10,058. The disruption was observed from July 30 at 21:25 UTC through August 6 at 00:30 UTC.

Technical Details

The primary affected signal was BGP, which measures the control plane visibility of a country’s internet routing prefixes. The signal’s median value remained at a constant low level of 347 visible prefixes throughout the event, indicating a sustained reduction in the number of Mali’s network blocks being advertised to the global routing table. The event duration was 6.1 days. Other internet traffic and reachability signals, including active probing across IPv4 /24 prefixes and backscatter measurements, showed less pronounced deviations during the same period.

The cause has not been publicly attributed. The disruption was reported as resolved at the end of the observation window.
