The Solomon Islands experienced a significant Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) disruption lasting six days, from July 31 to August 6. The event, which began around 00:45 UTC on July 31, resulted in a severity score of 25,124. Connectivity was observed returning to normal levels by 00:30 UTC on August 6.

Technical Details

The primary affected signal was the BGP control plane, which registered a median visibility score of 99 throughout the event. The BGP signal measures the stability of routing announcements for the country’s IP prefixes. Concurrently, a backscatter measurement signal, which serves as a proxy for aggregate connectivity, dropped to zero, indicating a complete loss of observable traffic. Active probing for IPv4 reachability also showed a 14% reduction from its peak levels during the observation period.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Network control plane stability was reported restored by the end of the observation window.
