Gabon experienced a brief but notable degradation in internet connectivity on the evening of August 16. The disruption began at 20:00 UTC and lasted approximately 30 minutes, with a severity score of 789. The primary impact was observed in the reachability of the country’s IPv4 address space.

Technical Details

The disruption was characterized by a 29% drop in the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 network prefixes. This indicates a reduction in the number of network blocks that could be successfully contacted from outside the country. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity, recorded a more significant 45% drop from its peak value during the event. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, which manages routing information between networks, remained stable throughout the period, showing no loss of advertised prefixes.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by 20:30 UTC.
