Timor-Leste experienced a brief but significant disruption to its internet routing infrastructure on Wednesday, August 20, 2026. The event, which lasted approximately 55 minutes, primarily impacted the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, a key mechanism for global internet routing.

Technical Details

The disruption began at 17:15 UTC and concluded by 18:10 UTC. The event registered a severity score of 96, with the primary impact observed on the BGP median signal. This signal measures the visibility of the country’s IP address prefixes in the global routing table; a drop indicates a reduction in the number of routes being advertised to the wider internet.

Concurrently, active probing for IPv4 address blocks showed a 12% reduction in reachability. Traffic volume measurements also indicated a substantial deviation from the expected baseline, with a 74% drop from peak levels observed during the event window.

Reported Cause

The cause of the disruption has not been publicly attributed.

Network connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation period.
