Madagascar experienced a significant connectivity disruption on Friday, August 21, 2026, affecting internet reachability across the country. The degradation began at 16:40 UTC and lasted for approximately 2.3 hours, with a peak severity score of 3,128 recorded during the event.

Technical Details

The primary affected metric was the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 network prefixes. This signal recorded a drop of 26% from its peak value. A concurrent 82% drop was observed in the merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter measurements. The gtr-norm signal, which tracks deviations from an expected traffic baseline, showed a 9% decline. The border gateway protocol (BGP) control plane signal remained largely stable, showing only a 1% drop in visibility for advertised prefixes.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by 19:00 UTC.
