Cape Verde experienced a significant internet connectivity disruption on August 27, 2026, lasting for more than 13 hours. The incident, which began around 10:10 UTC, was characterized by two distinct periods of degraded network reachability. The primary impact was observed in the reachability of the country’s IPv4 address space.

Technical Details

The disruption recorded a severity score of 14,974. The most significant impact was measured on the ping-slash24 signal, which tracks ICMP reachability across the nation’s IPv4 /24 network prefixes. This signal showed a 15% drop from its peak reachability levels. The first degradation period lasted from 10:10 to 18:50 UTC, followed by a second from 21:30 to 23:50 UTC.

Other network signals showed varied impacts. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter measurements, fell 71% from its peak. The gtr signal, measuring traffic volume, dropped 28% from its observed peak. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, responsible for routing announcements, remained stable throughout the event with no observed prefix withdrawal.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation window.
