The Central African Republic experienced a significant connectivity disruption on Thursday, August 28, 2026, affecting key internet routing infrastructure. The event began at 12:10 UTC and lasted for approximately four hours and twenty minutes, with a notable degradation in the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) signal.

Technical Details

The disruption registered a severity score of 1,927, primarily impacting the BGP control plane. The BGP signal, which measures the visibility of network prefixes to the global internet, showed a 7% drop from its peak. The event coincided with a 44% drop in the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across active IPv4 address blocks. Backscatter measurements from the merit-nt signal fell to zero, indicating a complete loss of that aggregate connectivity proxy. The gtr-norm signal, representing normalized traffic volume, recorded a 43% decline from its peak.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by 16:30 UTC.
