Guinea experienced a significant disruption to its internet control plane visibility on September 1, lasting for more than seven hours. The event, which began around 17:05 UTC and concluded by 00:30 UTC on September 2, primarily affected the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) signal. The disruption recorded a severity score of 586.

Technical Details

The disruption was characterized by a sustained drop in the BGP median signal. The BGP signal measures the control plane visibility of a country’s internet routing prefixes. During the event, the number of visible BGP routes remained stable at 150, but the severity score indicates a significant deviation from normal baseline behavior. Other network health indicators, including active probing for IPv4 reachability and traffic volume forecasts, showed lesser or no impact during the same observation window.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation period.
