Bangladesh experienced a brief but significant degradation in internet connectivity early Friday, July 18. The disruption, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, primarily affected the reachability of the country’s IP address space.
Technical Details
The degradation occurred between 04:30 and 05:00 UTC. The primary affected metric was the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 prefixes, recording a severity score of 721. This signal showed a 24% drop from its peak value during the observation window.
Other network signals showed less pronounced deviations. The BGP control plane, which provides visibility for routing prefixes, remained stable. The gtr-norm signal, a forecast deviation from an expected traffic baseline, recorded a 68% drop. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter measurements, showed a 65% drop. The cause has not been publicly attributed.
Connectivity was reported restored by 05:00 UTC.
