Belize experienced a significant, prolonged degradation in internet connectivity beginning on June 18. The disruption, which lasted nearly 14 days, was characterized by a severe drop in network reachability before being resolved in the early hours of July 2.

Technical Details

The event recorded a severity score of 569,039 based on degraded reachability across the country’s IPv4 address space. The primary affected metric was the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 network prefixes. This signal showed a sustained reduction in reachability from June 18 at 06:20 UTC until July 2 at 00:30 UTC.

Other network signals also showed deviations during the observation period. The gtr-norm signal, which tracks traffic volume against a forecasted baseline, recorded a drop of 65% from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity, showed a 66% drop from its peak. Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) visibility, which reflects control-plane routing announcements, remained stable throughout the event.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation window.
