Libya experienced a brief disruption to its internet routing control plane on Wednesday, July 23, 2026. The event, which lasted approximately 50 minutes, was characterized by a degradation in Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) visibility. The disruption began at 15:40 UTC and concluded by 16:30 UTC.

Technical Details

The primary affected signal was the BGP median, which measures the control plane visibility of network prefixes. The signal recorded a severity score of 106 during the event. The number of visible BGP routes dropped by 2% from its peak. Concurrently, other network health indicators showed minor fluctuations. Active probing for ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 prefixes showed a 13% drop in reachable networks. A separate backscatter measurement signal, which serves as a proxy for aggregate connectivity, recorded a more significant 75% drop from its peak value.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Network conditions were reported as restored by the end of the observation period.
