Nauru experienced a brief but notable disruption to its internet control plane on Thursday, July 17, 2026. The event, which lasted approximately 20 minutes, was characterized by a significant reduction in Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) visibility.

Technical Details

The disruption occurred between 03:30 and 03:50 UTC. The primary affected metric was the BGP signal, which recorded a severity score of 174. This signal measures the visibility of a country’s IP address prefixes in the global internet routing table; a drop indicates a reduction in advertised routes.

Concurrently, other connectivity indicators showed deviations. The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 network blocks, recorded a 29% drop from its peak. The gtr-norm signal, a normalized measure of traffic flow, also showed a 28% decline from its peak during the observation period.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity metrics were reported restored following the brief event.
