Nicaragua experienced a significant internet connectivity degradation on Friday, June 20, lasting approximately 90 minutes. The disruption began at 12:20 UTC and concluded by 13:50 UTC, with the most severe impact recorded on network reachability metrics.

Technical Details

The event registered a severity score of 8,865. The primary affected signal was the ping-slash24 metric, which measures ICMP reachability across the country’s IPv4 address space. This signal recorded a drop in reachable networks of up to 99% from its peak during the observation period. Other network health indicators, including traffic volume forecasts and backscatter measurements, also showed concurrent declines. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, which manages routing announcements, remained stable throughout the event.

The cause has not been publicly attributed. The disruption was resolved by the end of the observation window.
