Rwanda experienced a significant internet connectivity disruption on August 8, 2026, lasting approximately 90 minutes. The event, which began around 16:20 UTC, primarily impacted network reachability and routing stability. The disruption was resolved by 17:50 UTC.

Technical Details

The ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 network prefixes, recorded a severity score of 1,521. Its median value dropped by 32% from its peak during the observation window. Concurrently, the BGP signal, which reflects control plane visibility for network prefixes, showed a severity score of 108, with its median value falling by 5% from its peak. The gtr-norm and merit-nt signals, which serve as proxies for aggregate traffic and connectivity, also registered declines of 68% and 86% from their respective peaks.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation period.
