Syria experienced a significant degradation in its Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) visibility, a key internet control plane signal, for more than seven days. The disruption began on July 26 and persisted through the observation period ending August 3. The event registered a severity score of 19,970.
Technical Details
The primary affected metric was the BGP median signal, which measures the control plane visibility of a country’s internet routing prefixes. The signal recorded a drop of approximately 1% from its peak value during the event. Other internet health indicators, including active probing reachability (ping-slash24) and traffic volume forecasts (gtr-sarima), showed lesser deviations. The cause has not been publicly attributed.
