Uganda experienced a significant, multi-day degradation in its Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) connectivity beginning late on July 15. The disruption, which lasted for approximately three days, was characterized by a severe reduction in the control-plane visibility of the country’s internet prefixes.

Technical Details

The BGP signal, which measures the control-plane visibility and routing stability for a country’s IP prefixes, recorded a severity score of 63,424 during the event. The disruption began at 22:00 UTC on July 15 and persisted until 00:30 UTC on July 19. Other network health indicators, including active probing for IPv4 reachability and traffic volume forecasts, showed less pronounced deviations during the same observation period.

Reported Cause

The cause of the prolonged BGP disruption has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation window.
