Guam experienced a significant, multi-day internet connectivity degradation beginning on July 5. The disruption, which lasted over five days, was characterized by a sharp decline in network reachability and traffic volume before recovery was observed early on July 11.
Technical Details
The event recorded a severity score of 155,924. The primary affected metric was the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 network prefixes. This signal showed a 15% drop from its peak reachability level.
Other network measurements corroborated the disruption. The gtr-norm signal, which tracks traffic volume against an expected baseline, fell by 60% from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter measurements, dropped by 100%. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, which manages routing information between networks, remained stable throughout the event.
The cause has not been publicly attributed.
Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation period.
