Cape Verde experienced a series of connectivity degradations beginning on August 23, 2026. The disruptions, which lasted approximately nine hours, primarily affected the reachability of internet addresses across the country’s networks. The event was characterized by four distinct periods of reduced connectivity.

Technical Details

The primary degradation was measured in the ping-slash24 signal, which records ICMP reachability across IPv4 network prefixes. This signal registered a severity score of 9,719. The disruptions occurred in four separate intervals between 15:40 UTC on August 23 and 00:30 UTC on August 24, with the longest and most severe period lasting over three hours.

Other network signals showed varying impacts. The gtr-norm signal, a measure of traffic volume deviation from an expected baseline, recorded a drop of 26% from its peak. The merit-nt signal, an aggregate connectivity proxy based on backscatter measurements, showed an 87% drop from its peak value. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, responsible for routing announcements between networks, remained stable throughout the event, showing no observable drop.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation window.
