Trinidad and Tobago experienced a significant internet connectivity degradation on Tuesday, August 26, 2026. The disruption began at 10:10 UTC and persisted for approximately two hours and twenty minutes, ending around 12:30 UTC. The event was characterized by a sharp drop in network reachability across the country’s IPv4 address space.

Technical Details

The primary affected metric was the ping-slash24 signal, which measures ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 network prefixes. The signal recorded a severity score of 3,483, with reachability dropping by 34% from its peak during the observation window. The average reachability across monitored prefixes fell to 411.61 from a maximum of 489.

Other network signals showed varying impacts. The gtr-norm signal, a normalized measure of traffic volume, dropped by 32% from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity based on backscatter measurements, saw a 41% decline. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, which advertises network routes, remained stable with no observed prefix withdrawal activity.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation period.
