Zimbabwe experienced a significant internet connectivity disruption on Tuesday, August 26, 2026, lasting over four hours. The event began shortly after 08:20 UTC and continued until approximately 12:30 UTC, with a peak severity score of 2,608,875. The disruption was characterized by a sharp drop in network reachability and a concurrent degradation in the global routing table.

Technical Details

The primary impact was measured on the ping-slash24 signal, which monitors ICMP reachability across IPv4 network prefixes. This signal recorded a severity score of 7,463, with reachable prefixes dropping by 66% from their peak. The disruption period for this signal lasted from 08:20 to 12:30 UTC.

Simultaneously, the bgp signal, which reflects the visibility of a country’s network prefixes in the global Border Gateway Protocol control plane, showed a degradation. It recorded a severity score of 350, with a 2% drop in visible prefixes, from 08:25 UTC until the event’s conclusion.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Connectivity was reported restored by the end of the observation window.
