Angola experienced a significant, prolonged degradation in internet connectivity beginning on August 14, with the disruption lasting over 13 days. The event was characterized by a severe drop in network backscatter measurements, a key proxy for overall traffic volume, while other network control and reachability signals remained largely stable.

Technical Details

The disruption was observed from August 14 at 14:00 UTC until August 28 at 00:30 UTC. The primary affected metric was the backscatter measurement signal, which recorded a severity score of 1,754,514. This signal, which serves as a proxy for aggregate network traffic, showed a sustained drop of 59% from its peak levels during the event.

Other core connectivity indicators showed minimal deviation. Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) announcements, which reflect the control plane visibility of network prefixes, remained completely stable. Active probing for ICMP reachability across IPv4 /24 prefixes also showed only a marginal 2% reduction. The cause has not been publicly attributed.

Network connectivity was reported as restored at the end of the observation window.
