Belize experienced a significant, prolonged degradation in internet connectivity beginning on June 18. The disruption, which lasted for over ten days, was characterized by a severe drop in network reachability across the country’s IPv4 address space. Connectivity was observed to have recovered by 00:30 UTC on June 29.

Technical Details

The disruption recorded a severity score of 444,954, based primarily on a degradation in the ping-slash24 signal. This signal measures the reachability of IPv4 network blocks via active probing. The event began at 06:20 UTC on June 18 and persisted until 00:30 UTC on June 29, lasting approximately 10.8 days.

Other network telemetry showed corroborating anomalies. The gtr-norm signal, which measures traffic volume against an expected baseline, dropped by 20% from its peak. The merit-nt signal, a proxy for aggregate connectivity derived from backscatter measurements, fell by 38% from its observed maximum during the period. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) control plane, which governs routing announcements, remained stable throughout the event.

The cause has not been publicly attributed.

The disruption remained ongoing for more than a week before connectivity was restored at the end of the observation window.
